Principally speaking, automotive suspension system is
a part of the car chassis composed of wheels and tires, set of brakes, springs,
shock absorbers and fixtures (such as swivels, hubs, bushes, etc) and is
somehow associated with all the lower car components. In addition to provide
comfort and tranquility for those aboard, this system helps the car
sustainability during motion and plays a major role in its balance and
adhesiveness. Usually, the modern cars need two suspension systems one for the
front and the other for the back axis. For most of the front differential
sedans (front wheel drive) the front suspension system is designed and made in
independent manner and the back suspension system on dependent or
semi-independent manner, while for the back or four wheel drive cars, the
dependent suspension system used to be applied in two axis in the past and now
almost all of them use independent suspension system in all four wheels. From
amongst the independent suspension systems include Mac Pherson Strut, Double
A-arms, De Dion, single hinge pendulum, double hinge pendulum, simple double
branch lever, hydrostatic and hydro-pneumatic (Xantia vehicle suspension
system). On the other hand, brake is a mechanical tool prevents
a moving object from motion and decreases its speed or stops it. In sedans the
friction between compressing surfaces is used to convert the vehicle kinetic
energy into heat and eventually stop the car. However, it has been tried in
today’s modern cars (especially of electrical and hybrid types), to convert
car’s kinetic energy into electrical energy and reserved in batteries. During
the past decades the brake of light and heavy vehicles was in drum brake manner
for each wheel, while considering the higher efficiency of the disc brakes, the
latter is used in all vehicles. The main elements of brake include drum, wheel
cylinder, hardware and springs, adjuster, and brake shoe and the finally that
like other vehicle elements and systems which have been gradually developed and
emerged with better performance and durability, this system also has been
improved and several technologies such as ABS, EBA, EBD, etc have been added to
the same.
